Group accommodation in Friesland

Have you ever slept in a (former) police station? At B&B Perruque, you can – voluntarily, no less!

The former police station in Koudum is ideal for a short break with a group of friends or family. Our accommodation can sleep up to 22 people, and with our adjoining apartments, you can even extend this to 30 people.

Koudum is situated in the heart of South-West Friesland, right in the heart of the Eleven Cities region and the Frisian Lakes region. This means there are plenty of water sports on offer, as well as many beautiful cycling routes and seven of the Eleven Cities towns within a 25-kilometre radius.

Rogier and Iris look forward to welcoming you!

*Due to our location in a residential area, groups of young people are not permitted.

Comfortable rooms

Our group accommodation offers a high level of comfort – that’s what our guests tell us. With us, there are no creaky bunk beds or basic facilities, but nice rooms with comfortable box-spring beds. Each room has its own bathroom with a shower and toilet. There is also the option of our luxury flats can be added, allowing you to expand the group to a maximum of 30 people.

Everything is taken care of for you: the beds are neatly made on arrival, clean towels are provided, hand soap and shampoo/shower gel are available, and each room has a tray for a cup of coffee and/or tea. The rooms and apartments are equipped with a smart TV. Most rooms (and the apartments) have air conditioning, and every room has its own seating area. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building.

Communal space

The cosy communal area is beautifully light thanks to the large glass roof. Here, you can all enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner together, play games, watch TV, have a drink or simply relax. The bedrooms aren’t directly adjacent to this space, so children can sleep soundly whilst the adults catch up.

Adjacent to the communal area is the large, sunny garden, which also features a covered area. When the weather is fine, you can relax outside in one of the seating areas.

The kitchen is also located in the communal area and is equipped with a 6-burner gas hob, a large fridge-freezer, a microwave, an oven, a dishwasher and a filter coffee machine.

There are also two small fridges in the communal area for keeping drinks cool. If you use the apartments, this means you have access to two additional kitchens – fully equipped.

Catering is available at our venue; please ask us about the options.

Perruque is located in the former police station in Koudum. Please note: we are situated in the middle of a residential area, so unfortunately we cannot play loud music, and we ask that you be considerate of our lovely neighbours.

What’s on?

When you’re heading out with the whole family or a group of friends, it’s great to do things together. Fortunately, there’s plenty to do in the immediate vicinity and in Friesland in general! Not sure where to start? Rogier and Iris are happy to help you plan to make this trip a success. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Cycling in the local area:Explore the picturesque Eleven Cities towns such as Hindeloopen, Stavoren, Workum, Bolsward, Sneek, IJlst and Sloten by (electric) bike. You can, of course, also choose a lovely route around the Fluessen or in the Gaasterbossen. Incidentally, vintage Volkswagen buses are available to hire in the village, and e-choppers and mopeds in the surrounding area. Please ask us about the options for bike hire and similar services.
  • Enjoy a nice boat trip: Koudum is situated on the Fluessen, and with so much water in the immediate vicinity, a day out on a boat is really a must in good weather. There are several boat hire options in the village (including sailing boats, motorboats, small sloops and authentic Frisian skûtsjes). You can also take a boat tour in the area or hire canoes.
  • Kitesurfing and windsurfing: Are you a group of adrenaline junkies? Then why not go kitesurfing or windsurfing on the IJsselmeer? There are some fantastic spots nearby, such as the Mirnserklif, where there’s often plenty of wind. Book a beginner’s course or bring your own gear. Fancy something a bit more laid-back? How about stand-up paddleboarding on the Frisian lakes?
  • A visit to the beautiful Gaasterland: Take a walk or a bike ride through the beautiful forests of Gaasterland. You could, for example, start in Mirns or Rijs, where you can finish your walk on a sunny terrace and enjoy some refreshments.
  • UNESCO gems: Two fantastic UNESCO sites that are definitely worth a visit: the remarkable Woudagemaal in Lemmer, the oldest working steam pumping station in the world; and the planetarium in Franeker, the oldest working planetarium in the world, built by Eise Eisinga.
  • Ice skating: Will there ever be another Elfstedentocht? If so, you should definitely come to B&B Perruque, as we’re right on the route. Until then, you can feel like a true Frisian when you lace up your skates once the ice has frozen properly. A visit to the Skating Museum – with all the ins and outs of the Elfstedentocht – in Hindeloopen is also well worth it.
  • Museums: Many people make a point of visiting the Jopie Huisman Museum in Workum. This remarkable Workum native – first a rag-and-bone man, later a painter – has his own wonderful museum. Furthermore, the aforementioned Skating Museum in Hindeloopen is well worth a visit, as is the Museum Hindeloopen, whilst you’re in the area. The Maritime Museum in Sneek (also great for the little ones) is one of our own favourites! Don’t forget the UNESCO gems. A little further on, on the Afsluitdijk, you’ll find the spectacular Kazematten Museum. The ‘hands-on museum’ Museum Joure is also something special. And there’s plenty more; just ask us about the options.
